In 2015, we took a drive to Plainfield to photograph all the significant locations associated with the life and crimes of Ed Gein. As a Wisconsin resident and lifelong Gein researcher, I’m asked frequently for insight into the case, and provide photos for books and television (no, I don’t get paid for them) and wanted to update my portfolio for this and my own future works.
We’ve embarked on numerous expeditions to Plainfield, but it’s a two-hour drive from Cult of Weird HQ so I usually try to justify it with some new excuse to make the trip.

In September of 2015, that excuse was to capture better photos of places I had already visited previously, such as the hardware store, Plainfield Cemetery, and the property where Gein’s house once stood, as well as locations I hadn’t been to before like the other two cemeteries Gein would often visit in the night to desecrate the fresh graves of women who reminded him of his mother, and the place where he committed his first (known) murder, Mary Hogan’s tavern.
The result was this Ed Gein Road Trip post here on Cult of Weird, which even Google considered the utmost authority on things to do in Plainfield for some time.
Recently I decided to add Gein locations to Wisconsin Frights, my side project that aims to be the definitive Wisconsin Travel Guide to the dark side. I started digging through my archives in search of photos from past Plainfield trips, and discovered some video I forgot I had shot during the 2015 trip.
I edited those clips together to make this short Ed Gein tour of Plainfield.
