Miami Zombie Cannibal and Other Madness in the News

May 31, 2012/in Cult of Weird Blog/by Charlie Hintz

As evident by the daily dose of deranged on the Cult of Weird Facebook and Twitter pages, there is a never-ending stream of strange things in the news like unidentified creature sightings, bizarre medical anomalies, obscure discoveries and other random bits that are actually quite mundane compared to the recent news. Lately, things have been getting really weird. I mean, the face-eating incident in Miami has sparked widespread paranoia of a zombie apocalypse – that doesn’t happen every day.

Face-Eating Miami Zombie

Miami zombie cannibalThe Miami Zombie, also known as the Causeway Cannibal, has spread across the internet to the furtherest reaches of the globe. I’m sure there are remote tribes in the African Congo now preparing to defend themselves against the zombie hoards.

Police in Miami responded to a complaint about two men fighting on a bike path along the Causeway. When they arrive on the scene, they find a naked man eating the face of another naked man. The attacker, Rudy Eugene, 31, originally from Haiti, was ordered to stop. He growled at the police and continued to maul Ronald Poppo, a 65-year-old homeless man. An officer then fired a round into Eugene, which apparently had no effect, so they were forced to open fire until Eugene was dead.

Eugene’s girlfriend said he kissed her goodbye early that morning, told her he loved her, and left with Bible in hand to meet a friend. Security cameras show Eugene encounter the homeless man on the MacArthur Causeway, and proceed with the nearly twenty minute attack, during which he dragged Poppo down the sidewalk, tore his clothes off, and ate 80 percent of the man’s face, including his nose, mouth and eyeballs.

One witness described Poppo’s injuries: “His face was eaten off all the way down to his beard.”

Poppo, who had remained conscious throughout the attack, is currently in the hospital in critical condition.

The girlfriend says she now believes in Voodoo, as Eugene either had to be unknowingly drugged or cursed to commit such an act. Police think Eugene may have been on a new form of LSD called bath salts, which causes body temperature to rise to the point that logic and the ability to feel pain are lost. In the several similar cases they have seen, extreme violence, super-human strength, the removal of clothing and the use of jaws as a weapon occur once the delirium has set in.

Jarrod Wyatt Rips Out Training Partner’s Heart

Jarrod WyattAfter consuming tea spiked with hallucinogenic mushrooms with some friends in Klamath, California, US cage fighter Jarrod Wyatt became convinced his training partner Taylor Powell was possessed by the devil. He cut Powell’s chest open with a knife and ripped out his still-beating heart. Wyatt also cut out Powell’s tongue and ripped off most of his face.

When Police arrived, they found Wyatt covered in blood, standing naked over his friend’s body with parts strewn around the room. An eyeball was laying on the floor. Wyatt told police he tossed the removed organs into a fire because he feared Powell was still alive and “needed to stop the Devil.”

Man Throws His Own Intestines At Police

On Sunday, May 27th police responded to a call that a New Jersey man, Wayne Carter, had barricaded himself in a room and was threatening to harm himself. The officers kicked in the door, found Carter standing in the corner with a knife.

Ignoring orders to drop the knife, Carter stabbed himself in the legs, abdomen and neck. Attempts to subdue him with pepper spray did nothing but enrage Carter, who proceeded to cut off pieces of his skin and intestines, throwing them at the officers. Eventually they called in the SWAT team, who restrained Carter just before midnight and took him to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.

It is unknown whether drugs or mental illness had anything to do with the incident.

Maryland College Student Killed, Ate Roommate

A week after Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, 37, was reported missing, police found his dismembered body in the home he shared with 21-year-old electrical engineering student Alexander Kinyua. Kinyua told investigators he had killed the man by cutting him up with a knife, and then ate his heart and portions of his brain.
