The Secret History of the Hellfire Club

Demon worship, black masses, unholy baboons, and Benjamin Franklin. What went on during those meetings of the Hellfire Club deep in the caves of West Wycombe?

Rocks and charred remains from Aleister Crowley’s house are for sale on eBay, and you’re probably going to want them for your cabinet of curiosities as much as I do.

Boleskine House, little more than charred ruins today, was owned by “the wickedest man in the world” Aleister Crowley at the turn of the 20th century. There, he conducted numerous black rituals which some believe left Boleskine cursed. It has long been said that many of the 115 spirits Crowley claimed to have conjured, which included the 12 Kings and Dukes of Hell as well as Lucifer himself, are lurking within the walls of Boleskine.

You can read more about Aleister Crowley and the history of Boleskine here.

A fire decimated the house in 2015. It was put up for sale in 2019, but just after it was sold, another fire destroyed the last remaining wing.

“The house, which overlooks Loch Ness, was bought by Keith and Kyra Readdy last summer and two days later it went up in flames,” The Herald Scotland reports. “They had no insurance.”

But Boleskine may still see new life. Keith and Kyra formed the not-for-profit Boleskine House Foundation with the goal of restoring it to it’s original design and opening it as a spiritual retreat, the Inverness Courier reports.

To raise the estimated £700,000 needed for renovations, the group has been accepting donations through their website and crowdfunding platforms. And now they’ve really upped the ante by offering actual pieces of Boleskine for sale on eBay.

The eBay listing reads:

You are purchasing one original stone of up to 400g and one bag of charred remains from the fire on 31 July, 2019, from Boleskine House.

Obviously I bought one. The Cult of Weird collection would not be complete without an authentic chunk of cursed Crowley house.

Maybe they’ll throw in one of the Dukes of Hell for good measure.

Thanks to the Singular Fortean Society for putting this on my radar.

Milwaukee Parent Wants Teacher Fired for Using Ouija Board in Class

The unnamed parent claims her son is now having nightmares after his teacher used a Ouija board in the classroom.
Milwaukee teacher used a Ouija board in class

Milwaukee news station WISN is reporting that an elementary school teacher has been removed from her classroom following a complaint that she used a Ouija board and frightened her students.

A parent claims her 5-year-old is now having nightmares and is scared of the dark ever since the February 24th incident in which, as she described, “They were shutting off the lights and making it dark and talking to spirits. That’s not something that should be at school.”

In an email to the outraged parent, the teacher explained, “The kids have been asking for a scary story and I got the board and moved the paper clip to answer some of their questions. They asked about scary characters in movies. I did not say there were spirits. It was all done in fun. I understand your concern. It was silly and I’m sorry. I will take the board home and this won’t happen again.”

She said the Ouija board had been in the classroom since Halloween.

The mother is asking school officials for the teacher to be fired. She has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

I’m no educator (or uptight parent), but wouldn’t a Ouija board be a really great tool to help bring up those spelling test scores?
